Welcome to OLGC and a New School Year – 2018

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome back to the new and exciting school year as we embark on the second year at our beautiful new OLGC. Please continue to remind your children to use extreme caution in the neigbourhood as work is still being completed in the subdivision. We have a dedicated student kiss and ride off Kavanagh Avenue and ask parents to move up as far as possible to allow vehicles behind to drop off their children as well. The majority of our students will be bused and the dedicated bus loop is off Murrell Blvd. Parents are asked to avoid using this entrance/exit.

Parents are asked to pay special attention to the Freedom of Information form that is being sent home. This form is being sent home with each student and must be completed and returned to the school by September 21st. This is an annual process. We also ask that you are diligent in returning the emergency procedure forms in a timely manner as the contact information is imperative if we need to contact parents or guardians in an emergency situation.

Student Dress Code – Policy 219 A – Uniform Review

2018-19 is year 6 of the elementary student dress code, which means that the process for potential change to the school’s current student dress code must be addressed at the first meeting of our newly elected Catholic School Council. Presently, OLGC does not have a standard school uniform. Our current student dress code will be reviewed during our first Catholic School Council meeting on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at 7:00 p.m..  If you are interested in considering a change to our current student dress code, you are invited to attend this meeting or communicate your interest via phone or in writing prior to the meeting date.

There are two very important dates to mark on your calendar.  Tuesday, September 11th, is slated for the election of Catholic School Council (CSC).  If you are interested in being a Council member please join us on this evening. If you wish to be considered (or wish to nominate someone) for an elected position on Council please drop by the office or call to request a nomination. The second important date is our School Curriculum Night on Thursday, September 20th.  We will have a BBQ this year from 5:00 to 6:30. Teachers will present the curriculum at 6:30 and 7:00 p.m.

God Bless you all in the new school year.  Yours in Catholic Education,

Principal
